E150d is a Class IV caramel color obtained by heating carbohydrates in the presence of sulfite and ammonium compounds. It is not a single chemical substance but a complex reaction mixture. Because it is stable to acid, light and heat, it is widely used in carbonated beverages, sauces and bakery products.
