Cationic quaternary ammonium compound solution used as a disinfectant and surfactant.

Benzalkonium chloride (BAC) is a cationic quaternary ammonium compound consisting of mixtures of alkyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chlorides. As a 50% aqueous solution, it is used in disinfectant/antiseptic formulations, in textiles as a softener and fixative, and as a phase transfer catalyst.
