Aromatic alcohol used as a solvent, and also as a preservative, in the cosmetics and paint industries.
Benzyl alcohol (C6H5CH2OH) is a colorless aromatic alcohol with a mild pleasant odor. It is preferred as a solvent because of its low vapor pressure and relatively low toxicity. It is used as a preservative in cosmetic and personal care products, as a solvent in paint and ink formulations and as a bacteriostatic agent in pharmaceutical injectable solutions.
