Hexylene glycol (2-methyl-2,4-pentanediol) is a colorless glycol with a mild odor, used as a solvent in paint and coating formulations and as an emulsion stabilizer in cleaning products and cosmetics. It is also used in the laboratory as a precipitant/cryoprotectant in protein crystallography.
