37% aqueous formaldehyde solution (formalin) used for disinfection, tissue fixation and resin production.
Formaldehyde is the simplest aldehyde; as an aqueous solution (formalin) it is used in areas such as disinfection, tissue fixative solutions, urea-formaldehyde/phenol-formaldehyde resin production and leather tanning. Commercial solutions are usually stabilized with methanol to prevent polymerization.
