Benzoic acid salt used as an antimicrobial preservative in food, beverage and cosmetic products.
Sodium benzoate is the water-soluble sodium salt of benzoic acid and is sold as a white crystalline powder. It is used in foods and beverages (E211) as a preservative against molds, yeasts and some bacteria, and in cosmetic and pharmaceutical formulations as an antimicrobial additive.
