Unsulfited, more astringent chestnut tree tannin extract used in leather tanning.
Chestnut tannin extract is a vegetable tanning material containing hydrolysable tannins (mainly castalagin and vescalagin), obtained by hot water extraction from the wood and bark of the chestnut tree (Castanea sativa). The 'Bitter' (raw/unsulfited) designation indicates a more astringent and darker-colored processing grade.
