Hexavalent chromium (Cr VI) compound used in the production of chromium chemicals, leather tanning and metal surface treatment.
Sodium dichromate (sodium bichromate) is a strongly oxidizing inorganic salt containing hexavalent chromium (Cr VI), with an orange-red crystalline structure. It is used as an intermediate in the production of chromium(III) oxide and other chromium chemicals, in leather tanning, in metal surface treatment/passivation and in pigment production. It is a substance classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic and toxic to reproduction, and subject to restrictions in the EU (REACH Annex XVII / list of substances subject to authorization).
