Formic acid salt used in road salting/de-icing, leather tanning and drilling fluids.

Sodium formate is the sodium salt of formic acid; it is sold as a white crystalline powder. It is used in road de-icers (a less corrosive alternative to chlorides), in leather tanning, as a reducing/buffering agent in textile dyeing and as a weighting additive in oil drilling fluids.
