Sulfur-based salt used as a bleaching and reducing agent in the textile and paper industries.

Sodium dithionite (sodium hydrosulfite) is an inorganic salt with strong reducing properties. It is used for reducing vat/sulfur dyes in textile dyeing, for bleaching pulp and for bleaching clay. On contact with moisture and heat it may self-heat and decompose. It is of Chinese and Italian origin.
