Potassium hydroxide (caustic potash) is a readily water-soluble, hygroscopic, strong inorganic base. The flake form is used in areas such as liquid/soft soap production, fertilizer (potassium salt) synthesis, as a catalyst in biodiesel production and as an alkaline battery electrolyte. Potassium hydroxide is a corrosive substance that can cause severe burns to the skin and eyes.
